Seretide Accuhaler is indicated for the management of symptoms associated with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma. It exhibits anti-inflammatory properties and also relaxes the bronchial smooth muscle. This can help to prevent the occurrence of wheezing, breathing difficulties and asthma attacks (however, it will not provide relief from an asthma attack already underway). Each of the individual ingredients in Seretide Accuhaler exhibit their therapeutic medicines differently, as both belong to separate classes of medications.
Fluticasone is a trifluorinated corticosteroid which is said to be synthetic. It exhibits potent anti-inflammatory activity and acts on many different cells and mediators which contribute to inflammation. One of the contributing factors to breathing difficulties is inflammation in the airways, and by acting on the lungs and airways, this medicine helps to prevent tightening of the airways, thereby making breathing easier. It may even reduce excessive production of mucus.
Salmeterol is known as a selective LABA (long-acting beta2 adrenoceptor agonist), and it works by causing the bronchial smooth muscle to relax. This is achieved by acting on the beta 2 receptors and stimulating and enzyme called adenyl cyclise, allowing the airways to open and remain opened up for up to 12 hours.
Seretide Accuhaler is provided with an inhalation device that contains 60 blisters. Refer to the instruction leaflet and the directions given by your doctor in order to ensure that it is used properly. The dosage might differ depending on individual circumstances, such as the condition being treated (asthma may require a different dosage to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease). It is normally used on a daily basis, and your doctor will generally tell you to use the lowest dose which can provide effective control of your symptoms.
Seretide Accuhaler cause unwanted side effects such as:headache, congested nose, slight voice changes, soreness in the sinus, dryness affecting the throat or mouth.
